I have been a Heathen since 2003. That is when I quit lying to myself that I was a Christian. I am from a family who kept many of the old ways alive yet did so within a Christian framework.

Yep LA isn't known for trees. We don't go out there anymore. We have had a hard time of it lately but hoping things will pick up soon. Right now everyone I know is on FB and not interested in joining something new. I am still hoping to…

Horrible winter up the "holler". New job that I like and pays much better except they have the bad habit of sending me off to California for training every few months. (I only counted 5 trees in the area I was in in L.A. ugh!) Hope this…

Nine Virtues

One of the things that drew me to Asatru was the nine noble virtues. In general they are Courage, hospitality, loyalty, discipline, industriousness, independence, and perseverance. All are traits I admire most in people, unfortunately they seem to be lacking in myself and society in general. I decided to change that in myself but first I had to discern what the virtues meant to me.

I started with courage, to me courage is working through fear to do what needs to be done even if…

To Heathens: The Open Halls Project

Got this in my E-mail, thought I should spread the word.

**What is the Open Halls Project?**

Military life is not easy, it's full of challenges for service members and families alike. Very often, duty takes military Heathens away from community and with constant moves, it can be hard to find a Heathen community again.

Hence the reason for the Open Halls Project .

The Open Halls project is an independent grassroots project with the sole purpose of helping… Continue

Siedr

No matter what path I study I always end up on that cultures version of shamanism. The same goes for heathenism, first the term Vanatru randomly appeared. I immedeatly wondered what it was so I looked it up. In heathenism it turns out, some folk are drawn by the Vanir tribe.

The Vanir are usually discribed as agricultural entities, the most famous being Njord, Freyr, and Freyja, each of whom give us thier own version of prosperty and pleasure. Eventually this led to Seidr, a norse… Continue

death and education

I've been studying on Asatru-u figuring I'd have to start somewhere and I've filled up half a note-book already. I'm working on finding my own copies of the Eddas, Beowulf, and at least some of the sagas off the net due to the fact I can't order online and the library would have to do an inter library loan and I don't thing they'll like me highlighting them. I'm probaly going to have to order from The BookNook.

I need to figure out the best translations for beginners like me so I'm… Continue

To our men and women on the front lines....

Dear warrior.

Checking my E-mail and stumbled on Circle Sancuary's military care package drive. I decided to do something for our brothers and sisters who fight and die on the front lines. Until I figure out what that is I'll say this.:

Though I may not approve of our war I support you guys. I haven't a clue what your going through, never having smelled the gunpowder, sweat, blood, and other things I won't get into. Or having felt the fear and at times excitement and exhilration of… Continue
